To investigate the diagnostic values of psychometric test (PT) and visual evoked potential (VEP) in detection of subclinical hepatic encephalopathy (SHE) .Number connection test (NCT) and VEP were performed in 45 patients with liver cirrhosis and in 30 healthy subjects as controls respectively.22 patients (49%) were found abnormal with VEP detection and 25 cases (56%) with NCT.In control group, 9 cases (30%) were abnormal with NCT and 8 cases (27%) with VEP.The difference was significant in VEP and NCT between the patients group and control group (P<0.05) .NCT and VEP were useful in diagnosis of SHE. There was added advantage of performing PT and VEP to detect SHE.
