Pediatric liver diseases associated with infection

All types of pathogenic hepatotropic viruses and other viruses, bacteria and fungi may cause liver diseases in children.As one of the component of multisystem disease, the symptoms of viral hepatitis may be atypical in most pediatric-aged patients.But severe liver injury may occur in few cases.The immune status is significantly associated with clinical manifestations.The characteristics of pathology of acute viral hepatitis is the presence of diffuse degeneration and necrosis of single or groups of parenchymal cells.The characteristics of chronic hepatitis is the presence inflammatory infiltrate and fibrosis in liver parenchyma and portal area.Some bacteria, fungi and other pathogens infection may cause pyogenic liver abscess and granulomas.Intensive investigations may be required for definite diagnosis.
