Abstract

Abstract

Objective To study the distribution and clinical significance of Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) genotypes in Lanzhou district. Methods HBV genotype was tested in 163 patients by real-time PCR.Results HBV genotype C (92.02%) was a found to be the major genotype in Lanzhou district. Genotype C and combined genotypes B and C accounted for 4.30% and 3.68%, respectively. Cirrhosis was higher in patients with genotype C than genotype B patients (49.33%vs34.00%) , but the difference was not statistically significant. Furthermore, cirrhosis and liver cancer patients were older than patients with chronic hepatitis B and the HBVDNA level was lower in chronic hepatitis B patients.Conclusion HBV genotype C is the major genotypes in Lanzhou district. Besides HBV genotype, factors such as age, disease course and the HBV DNA levels are important factors in disease prognosis.
