The expression and significance of HMGB1 in chronic hepatitis B

Abstract

Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression of high mobility group box 1 protein (HMGB1) in different liver tissue and its relationship with liver injury.Methods 46 liver specimens of chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients were diagnosed by serology test.The hepatic inflammation and fibrosis degree were tested by HE, Masson and Gordon-Sweet staining.Immunohistochemical method was used to detect the expression of HMGB1.Results HMGB1 didn't or weakly expressed in normal liver tissue, while strongly expressed along with aggravative hepatic inflammation and fibrosis (P<0.005) .Conclusion HMGB1 expression is positively correlated with hepatic inflammation and fibrosis, which is the sensitive indicator of treatment and prognosis.
